dc.description.abstract The study aimed at assessing the effect of monitoring and evaluation practices and performance of health projects in South Kivu, DRC: A case of the Programme National de Lutte contre le Sida (PNLS). The study objectives were to determine monitoring and evaluation practices of PNLS, establish the level of performance of the PNLS, and to determine the effect of Monitoring and Evaluation practices on the PNLS performance. The study used descriptive research design. The target population was made up of all the employees and managers, who total 59. The study took the form of a census. The study used questionnaire, descriptive, inferential statistics (Pearson correlation) and Chi-square. The study found that monitoring and evaluation practices are used but monitoring and evaluation training is not valued. The organization met the project performance parameter such as completion of project on time, within the scope of the project except cost. The study finally found that M&E practices significant statistical effect on project performance at the organization. This means that, an increase in use of monitoring and evaluation practices has an effect on project performance. The study recommends that the organization should regularly train employees and that, the management of the organization should ensure that adequate funds are availed for the successful implementation of the monitoring and evaluation practices. The research recommends that the DRC government should also improve the existing policies and if possible, introduce new policies that are friendly and do not get in the way of implementation of projects (AIDS projects). en_US
